REAL Alternatives 4 LIFE launches webinars for training providers and employers
REAL Alternatives 4 LIFE is inviting you to take part in one of our two webinars that will explain how you, as a training provider or employer can benefit from our blended learning approach. The REAL Alternatives 4 LIFE training programme includes self-study e-learning, booklets for students and a package of resources for trainers wanting to develop training courses including specifications for practical training and standardised assessments leading to Certification of technicians.
If you can’t attend these events please register anyway as they will be recorded and you will be automatically sent a link after the event.
About the project...
Industry groups are joining together to help provide information on the safe use of alternatives such as ammonia, hydrocarbon, carbon dioxide and low flammables though the REAL Alternatives learning programme. Resources developed as part of the project offer innovative blended learning - a mix of e-learning, face-to-face training materials, practical exercises, assessments and an e-library of learning resources.
The free multi-lingual learning materials are available for individual development or use as classroom training materials. They include e-learning content, electronic tools, a comprehensive library gathered from existing resources. The e-library contains over 100 useful industry resources.
The project is co-funded by the EU LIFE Programme for environmental initiatives.

Low GWP refrigerants are increasingly used as a result of the HFC phase-down provided by the F-gas Regulation. Many of these low GWP refrigerants are flammable. This characteristic has various direct impacts on installers' daily work, whether in terms of qualifications, standards, manufacturers' instructions or equipment and working conditions.
This leaflet provides all the information necessary to get ready for the use of flammable refrigerants.

What do you think of the e-learning? Tell us how you are using the e-learning, how you rate its content and make suggestions for how it could be improved.
Have you tried the new updated e-learning?
The booklets to support the e-learning have been translated into Czech, German, Spanish, French, Slovakian, Italian, Dutch, Polish, Croatian, Finish, Turkish and Russian with additional languages being added in the coming months. A new booklet on Safety and Risk Assessment for flammable, toxic and high pressure low GWP refrigerants has been added. Download at www.realalternatives4life.eu
The EU project, REAL Alternatives 4 LIFE, will organise a programme of Study Days and Train the Trainer events during the second half of 2018 and into 2019 to reinforce the practical training associated with the use of low GWP alternative refrigerants.
Co-financed by the EU's funding instrument for the environment and climate action, the REAL Alternatives 4 LIFE project will organise four study day events in several countries in Europe aimed at standardising and ensuring a high level of training on low GWP alternative refrigerants.
To be held in the project partners countries Germany (IKKE), Italy (ATF), Poland (Prozon) and Belgium (UCLL), the topics will focus on flammables and carbon dioxide, with the number of participants varying from 8-12 per event. Participants of this programme will include training providers from Croatia, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Romania, Spain and Turkey.
At the Study Days, knowledge and expertise will be shared on how low GWP alternative refrigerants training courses are carried out. This will aim to prepare the trainers for the new training courses that will be offered in their national markets based on the REAL Alternatives materials.
The events will be organised as a half-day of theoretical training and a half-day of practical demonstration on test equipment. The day will be conclude by a written assessment to validate the training and for which participants will receive a certificate.

About REAL Alternatives
AREA has developed the refrigeration and air conditioning sector’s first calculation app to aid compliance with EN378 and F Gas requirements for field engineers. Developed by engineers for engineers. Originally published in English, the app has been updated and - thanks to the outstanding work of AREA members - it is now available in 14 languages:
REAL Alternatives for LIFE
REAL Alternatives is being updated! As someone who has been involved as a learner or stakeholder in the past we would welcome your views as the programme moves on to its next stage of development - find out more below and take part in the survey here.
7 Partners, 8 Stakeholders
As part of its environment and climate action funding programme the European Commission will be co-financing the expansion of the REAL Alternatives blended learning programme for low GWP refrigerants. ”REAL Alternatives for LIFE“ is a new and extended project to update existing content, develop new materials on applying safety standards and introduce a range of practical exercises and assessments. It will also include train the trainer events and study days held across Europe. There will be a high profile awareness campaign to encourage recognition of this training amongst employers, wholesalers, manufacturers, end users and policy makers – increasing confidence in the application of these new refrigerants. The expansion will mean that REAL Alternatives for LIFE training can be delivered to nearly 220,000 technicians across Europe by a network of nationally accredited trainers by the end of the project.
The LIFE programme is the EU's funding instrument for environment and climate action. It promotes innovative solutions and spread best practices in reducing emission and adapting to climate change across the European Union.
REAL Alternatives for LIFE will promote best practice in training for low GWP alternative HFOs, R32, hydrocarbon, carbon dioxide and ammonia across Europe – ensuring they are used safely, efficiently, reliably and cost-effectively. It will addressing some of critical barriers currently preventing more widespread take in the industry by increasing awareness, experience and knowledge levels. The project will also spread knowledge about the availability of training for low GWP refrigerants with a presence at some of the most important national, EU and global environmental summits, conferences and events.
Institutes, training organisations and trade bodies across thirteen countries will be working together on this important international project which starts in June this year and will run for three years. It will operate in thirteen working languages and include fifteen partner organisations based in UK, France, Germany, Italy, Belgium, Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Spain, Romania, Denmark, Portugal, and Turkey.
The Project Management team includes The Institute of Refrigeration and London South Bank University in the UK, University College Limburg in Belgium, IKKE Regional Training Centre in Germany, ATF Trade Association in Italy, PROZON Foundation for climate protection refrigerant reclamation organization, International Institute of Refrigeration in France, and AREA.
In order to represent association members and promote the activities, SOSİAD participates Chillventa 2016, the international exhibition for the Refrigeration – AC & Ventilation – Heat Pumps sector from 11 - 13 October 2016, held in Nuremberg in Germany .
